Sanatzar

Social Welfare Department has mandate for training and rehabilitation of the destitute and under-privileged female segment of the society. With this mandate in 1979, Sanatzar were established as ‘Training cum Production Centre’ to initiate various welfare based training and production activities for  women across Punjab.

Training in various skills is imparted on one side and on the other side, trained women are registered as workers with sanatzars and various saleable articles are got prepared / produced by the same registered workers.

Presently, 44 Sanatzars are working in the Punjab, 41 in districts and 3 at Tehsil level, focusing on the skill development of females following the same model as Sanatzar.sdp

Objectives

  1. Providing training to women in local and special crafts of each district and enroll them as workers and providing order work
  2. Pay them wages to manufacture products of sale-able /market-able standards from local and foreign markets
  3. Preparing prototype designs of local crafts popular in each district and to supply their standard designs to local and foreign markets to obtain bulk supply orders
  4. Ensuring constant flow of finished products to local and foreign markets
  5. Strengthening of the existing centers and opening of new smaller centers at tehsil, thana, and town  levels with local participation on matching basis
  6. Establishing a constant liaison with small industries corporation, export promotion bureau and similar other related agencies
  7. Organizing frequent melas / fairs for the purposes of popularizing the products of these DIHs as well as providing additional out lets for the marketing of these products
  8. Training of teachers of industrial homes located at lower level through mobile teams of the technical staff of these DIHs
  9. Providing part of the bulk order to local industrial homes as incentive to the trained women.

Target Group

  • Flexible admission criteria is adopted
  • Women from all classes specially from under-privileged segment
  • No age limitation
  • No education / qualification for admission

Trainings

Trainings are being imparted in approximately more than 100 different skills. Some of the general trades are as under:

  • Painting.
  • Leather Work
  • Tie & Dye
  • Flower arrangement etc.
  • Food Reservation
  • Appropriate technology (washing, powder, shampoo, etc.)
  • Driving

  • Digital Marketing (Recently Introduced) 

Centre / Order Work

The trained workers are provided Centre work & Order work and wages paid to them for the same. To provide regular monetary benefit to the Workers, products (center work) is get prepared from Workers throughout the year other than Order Work and sell these products in local market and through exhibitions. For presentation of finished products, display centers are established with most of the Sanatzars. The trained workers are provided entrepreneurship opportunities through building linkages with stakeholders.

Participation in events /Exhibitions

All Sanatzars and Qasar-e-Behboods regularly participate at local and provincial events like:

    • Wexnet exhibition at national level
    • Horse and cattle show ( when arranged)
    • Exhibitions in wake of Jashan baharan at divisional and district level
    • Arrange independent periodic Exhibitions

Collaboration with NAVTTC

With partnership of NAVTTC, these institutions are giving training to women in different art & craft skills.
